This week this week, the Indian audience will be able to see the film’s cinematic masterpiece Free Guy has made a splash with critics and the box office worldwide. Pinkvilla was fortunate enough to be a part of the international junket to promote this Ryan Reynolds starrer. The film Free Guy features Joe Keery playing Key, an engineer for video games who is working on behalf of Antwan (Taika Waititi) who is the founder of Free City, the makeshift video game that is the story’s central setting within the film Free Guy.
Although fans will enjoy Joe as he appears in the Free Guy For many, the actor who is 29 is forever known for his role as Steve Harrington from Stranger Things’ Steve Harrington. I couldn’t resist asking Keery on how he feels his beloved Netflix characters will perform as they appear in Free City and got a hilarious answer. “That’s an amazing question! Most likely, not so as well. I’m thinking Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) will probably do quite well due to her telekinetic abilities. However, the rest of us I’m not sure. If they were all they had not carrying anything or any other items that would be difficult. I would not want anything… I don’t wish to be living in Free City. It’s not possible,” Joe wittily theorised.
I’m thinking Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) is probably going to do quite well (in Free City, Free Guy’s video game] because she has telekinetic abilities.
Joe Keery
In addition to Jodie Comer who is able to pull double duty as both developer Millie Rusk and Free City’s Molotov Girl, most of Keery’s Free Guy scenes feature Taika along with Utkarsh Ambudkar, who plays developer Mouser. I wanted to know from Joe what his impression was of working with Thor: Love and Thunder director, specifically the case of an abundance of improvisations in the sequences of the two. In response, Keery gushed, “There is, floating in the air somewhere, something like the 39-minute blooper reel from Taika running around in a maniacal manner. Taika is just getting crazy. On set, those days the actor… was in the studio for about two weeks, and I was so happy to be working with him. I am a huge fan of his as an actor as well as a director as well as a writer. He’s sort of prolific. You can think of,” before adding, “I thinkthat, based on the performance… He’s probably got 98 percent more than he has out there somewhere in the depths of. So, yeah! It was tough to stay focused for him , because he’s incredible. It was a true pleasure to work with him and learning from him , and watching him perform his work. And the confidence he displayed and the fact that he’s not unwilling to risk his life and that’s exactly what the best do, I believe. He was a great performer.”
I am not a gamer, but the movie Free Guy was nevertheless enjoyable. Therefore I inquired of Joe what it is he thinks will be about in “Free” Guy that will appeal to non-gamers and gamers alike. Keery said, “Yeah, that’s a great question! When we were in interviews, Ryan was saying like”‘Titanic’. Similar to Free Guy, Titanic is not a film about boating. Free Guy is not a film about a particular video game. It’s just a vehicle used to convey what happens in the film.’ It’s just that simple! It’s clever. It’s kind of true since there are references to gaming culture, and jokes that one might need to be an avid gamer to comprehend I’d like to believe that you don’t need to be a fan of games to be able to enjoy the Free Guyto enjoy it.’ In other words, if you’re not a fan of gaming, that’s fine. This is a living proof. It’s amazing. I would like to see other people enjoy the same kind of experience you did.”
