Heartstopper premiered at Netflix the 22nd of April 22nd, and we’ve been unable to forget about anything else since. If you haven’t seen it yet, you should be ready for tears.
The heartwarming tale of a coming-of-age story dealt with everything from sexuality and identity to friendship and love and has already had a significant changes in the lives of a lot users. For many, it was the the catalyst that led to their decision to come out.
The story is based on graphic novel series by Alice Oseman, the story follows a frightened teenager Charlie (Joe Locke) when he discovers an attraction to the popular player in rugby Nick (Kit Nick Connor). The series follows the development of this new relationship that is, despite becoming cliché, does make you feel cozy and warm inside.
In addition to establishing the romance and developing this love story between Nick along with the development of their relationship, Nick Charlie, Heartstopper demonstrates friendship is among the most essential aspects of the adolescent years. It gives children a the feeling of belonging and acceptance when they are around those who know them the best.
Within the circle of Charlie’s friends All four teens have a clear and uncompromising personality when they’re around each other. They’ve all been victims of harassment at school but Charlie and Elle probably suffering the most as a result of the transphobic and homophobic behavior of their peers. When they’re together but, they will feel confident that they’re completely accepted.
In other cases in other instances, when Elle goes to school, she felt like an outsider. It is only until she gets to meet Darcy and Tara and Tara, which will be the first occasion we as viewers meet Elle and some glimpses into her life while she interacts with them in school.
We watch Nick as he wrestles with his sexuality, which is usually expressed by way of hand-to-hand gestures, cartoon love heart and sexuality-related quizzes. When Nick is hanging out with the popular boys, he becomes uneasy, and starts to question their morals when he sees them harass Charlie.
If he’s with Charlie as well as Tara and Darcy On one hand, you sense his satisfaction at being able just to be himself and be safe.
In all of these friendships that are formed, the characters are accepted they belong to and are allowed to experience the frightening teenage years together, without worry of being judged for just being themselves.
But, it’s true that friendships can be difficult for teenagers. Due to the importance of this network of support the feeling of being unwelcome or unsupported by your friends can be overwhelming. For Charlie’s closest buddy Tao (William Gao) the feeling is.
Incredibly loyal and quick-witted It’s hard to see how anyone could not like the character. However, there are some who do. After binge-watching the entire series and of course using social media to find out what others ‘ opinions about the show, it was a bit surprising to see a plethora of tweets and TikToks in which people stated of Tao wasn’t their “least preferred” character, and they believed they thought he was “selfish” because of his treatment of Charlie.
OK, Tao can be a bit overprotective, and maybe occasionally a little snarky But is she is he your least favorite character? What happens when Ben or Harry are around? Heartstopper
It’s important to be aware that Tao did not know the fact that Nick as well as Charlie were in a relationship. It wasn’t possible for Charlie to reveal the truth, in his mind, as Tao had made it very evident that he didn’t love Nick.
However, from his viewpoint Tao’s perspective, he was getting taken over in the eyes of Nick and was concerned that his closest friend was not caring about his feelings at all. For Tao his friends, this group is the most important part of his teen years. Heartstopper
However, when Charlie found a new friend when Nick and Elle transferred schools, it appeared to be as if he was scared of being abandoned at a time in which everything is changing simultaneously and tend to be a bit scary.
Most importantly, Tao was just trying to shield his best friend from the types of people that had caused him to suffer in school earlier that year. In the end, Nick’s friendship group includes two of Charlie’s principal enemies – Ben Hope and Harry Greene. Heartstopper
Although the show touches upon this as the reason behind Tao’s protection, a scene from the comics which could have explored the issue, didn’t make it into the show.
The comic’s character Tao says to Charlie: “I’m concerned that someday he’ll discover you’re a fan of his character as well and… I’m afraid to know if you’ll… you’ll do some thing wrong.
“Like many of his Year 11 buddies like Harry are judgmental and exactly the kind of people who abused you in the past. It was me who was the sole person who stood by you back then as well… it’s afraid that this will occur to you again.”
He continues to explain how the couple weren’t close with Aled ( who isn’t on this show) as well as Elle “back in the past” and “don’t really know what it is like”. This is also the reason Isaac and Elle don’t seem as upset like Tao when Charlie becomes a member of the rugby team and begins playing with Nick.
Tao tried to shield his friend. He also provided us with some hilarious humorous remarks directed at Harry while he was doing the same time.
While the perspective of how difficult the experience was Charlie during the year prior was not as evident in the show like they did in comics, the insight wasn’t necessary to demonstrate the extent to which Tao loved the character. Tao could certainly enhance his handling of certain circumstances, however.
When you’re a kid, it’s very easy to become distracted by emotions and appear uninformed at times. It’s because kids don’t seem to be quite mature enough yet. In some cases, friends could represent the single most significant aspect of their lives at this stage. Others, like Charlie and Nick they are embracing their first love with all the teenage complexity.
This could mean that for those who are young and might not be interested in relationships but aren’t yet ready, it’s often difficult to figure out the reasons why their friends are. It appears that this could change with Tao however, as at near the final episode of the show we started to see sparks, or more accurately stars – fly between him and Elle. We’re looking forward to finding out the progress of this charming romance should Netflix (please) extends this show to the next season..
So what do you think? Is Tao not worthy of this negative remark? We don’t think that. The only thing that isn’t agreeable about him that we could imagine is that he’s not a fan of Marvel. We’re willing to forget about it.
Heartstopper can be viewed now streaming via Netflix.
