John Krasinski offered an update on the possibility of his reprise his role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Reed Richards in the 2025 Fantastic 4 reboot.
The Fantastic Four from the MCU’s Fantastic Four has been a topic of discussion with fans since Disney purchased Fox as well as the reboot finally announced. A variety of names have been discussed in the Marvel First Family, with The Office‘s John Krasinski being one of the most talked-about regarding Reed Richards, aka Mr. Fantastic.
Fans had a glimpse of the possibility earlier this year when Krasinski’s character popped into the role of one of Earth-838’s Illuminati as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The unfortunate thing is that this particular Variant was killed by Scarlet Witch, but many are still hoping to be able to see Krasinski returning to his main storyline.
So so far, Krasinski has insisted that he is not aware of the future of his MCU and his most recent set of remarks seem to provide an unsatisfactory update in this regards.
Will John Krasinski Play the MCU’s Mr. Fantastic?
In the press conference that was held at the press event for Jack Ryan Season 3, John Krasinski confirmed to The Wrap that there “aren’t any discussions whatsoever” regarding his return in the MCU as Reed Richards for 2025’sjohn krasinski fantastic 4 film, following his Illuminati appearance on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
The Officestar revealed that the only conversation he had in the past with Marvel Studios came with his request the opportunity to record his Multiversal appearance for Doctor Strange 2 the movie, which he described as an “real thrilling experience”given his fandom of comic books:
“There isn’t any discussion the only discussion I’ve had was in the second week to last weekend of Jack Ryan. Kevin Feige called and said that you could travel from L.A. and play in our sandbox? It was a privilege to take part in it. I flew directly from Budapest to finish the film and headed straight to the “Doctor-Strange” set. I’m a huge fan of all the characters and the world they inhabit which is why to play with that Sandbox for a day was an absolute thrill.”
Krasinski said that his swift and tragic death “wasn’t his ultimate purpose”in the Marvel universe which suggests that he could be aspiring to the role of a greater size:
“It was completely insane. Being in an area with everyone and then to be part of the storyline is insane. It’s true that being transformed into spaghetti wasn’t my primary purpose in life, as regards how it plays out within the Marvel universe however, it was enjoyable nonetheless.”
Do John Krasinski Have a Future in the MCU?
Fantastic Fourdoesn’t release until February 2025. production set to start until 2024, under the direction of Matt Shakman. Therefore, Marvel Studios has plenty of time to search for a new cast member for the Marvel’s First Family, although things don’t look very promising for John Krasinski’s chance at the lead role.
The actor’s reference to being been an “end purpose”in the franchise beyond the quick death of his spaghetti is a hint that he had ambitions to play a bigger role in the MCU. But even though Krasinski will likely not be in the role of Fantastic Four, this doesn’t mean his MCU period is ended.
Many actors like The Eternals‘ Gemma Chan have played several characters in the MCU and Krasinski is likely to be able to play another role. But that’s likely to happen when enough time has been given to allow his Multiverse of Madnesscameo to be buried in the back of people’s minds.
Or, in the future, introducing or introducing the Council of Reeds could offer another option to make it easier for his return. Maybe Marvel Studios could one day create the Spider-Man The Last Way Home-inspired crossover of various Mr. Fantastic Variants that include Krasinski, Ioan Gruffudd, Miles Teller, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s newest Reed Richards.
Fantastic Fourhits theaters on February 14, 2025.
