Love and Monsters 2 has not been confirmed despite its success (it was nominated for an Oscar for Best Visual Effects)
The US released the movie monsterpocalypse starring Dylan O’Brien ( Maze Runner). This was before it really gained steam in the US when it landed on Netflix in April 2021.
gave the movie four stars. We were particularly impressed by O’Brien’s performance, and the dog’s excellent behavior. Joel (O’Brien), is a character who travels across the monster-filled land in search of his high school girlfriend Aimee ( Jessica Henwick). Along the way, he learns more about himself.
It lends itself to a sequel, and director Michael Matthews stated in October 2020 that there had been some discussion about it.
“I have some interesting ideas. We did not focus on it being its own movie. This is not the way to start a franchise. It was more like, “Let’s make cool movies!” He explained that ‘Let’s see the response’.”
We had a great response, but we are still waiting to see if Love and Monsters 2 is confirmed. Here’s everything you need about a possible sequel, including how it was set up in the first movie.
Love and Monsters: How do you set up Love and Monsters 2!
Seven years before the events in the movie, the monsterpocalypse occurred when a meteor heading to Earth was stopped by nations sending rockets up to it and exploding them. The planet was hit by the chemicals from the rockets, which caused all cold-blooded creatures to become vicious and gigantic monsters.
People live in isolated, sometimes underground colonies. The movie is mainly set in the “present” and follows Joel on his journey to the coast to meet Aimee.
He meets Boy at the start of his journey. His owner has presumably passed away, but Boy still carries her red dress everywhere. Boy and Joel meet up and the two of them become friends. Clyde (Michael Roker, Guardians of the Galaxy) is heading to safety in the mountains, where the cold and elevation keep them safe and free from most of the monsters. Minnow ( Ariana Greenblatt).
Clyde, Minnow and their father, respectively, have taught Joel valuable lessons about how to survive. They part ways and Joel heads west with Boy. But a fatal encounter in which Boy almost gets him killed leads Joel to shout at Boy, and Boy flees. Joel is on the brink of death when Aimee rescues him.
Although she is excited to meet him, she admits that she didn’t expect him to visit. She also reveals how much has changed over the years, including the loss of a close friend. Joel accepted this in a surprising gesture, acknowledging that it was ridiculous of him to travel all the way without telling her first.
Aimee introduces Joel to her colony. But Joel harbors suspicions that are finally proven true when a new survivor named Cap (no that one), reveals that he has come to steal their supplies. He is pulling a giant crab monster pulled by an electrified lead. Boy returns to the rescue after a fight.
Joel and Aimee win after Joel looks into the eyes of the monster and decides to let him go. The crab then follows Cap and his minions before disappearing into water. Joel goes back to his colony, helping them get towards the mountains. Aimee is also there leading her elderly survivors colony.
The film ends with surprise! Clyde, Minnow, and Joel are in the snow-covered mountains listening to Joel’s rallying call over the radio. They encourage the colonies to climb higher and to live together in the mountains. Clyde, Minnow speculate about Joel’s survival on the trek. The movie ends.
There is clearly plenty of potential for a sequel. Joel and his colony still have a lot of work ahead, as do Aimee and hers. There are many colonies in the USA that need safety, and possibly other countries, because the monsters can travel via sea.
