Biography
Emaunel “Mannie” Davis was born Janaury 23rd 1894, at Yonkers New York. As Emanuel Davidavitch to Hungarian Immigrants. His brother, who was younger, was a the famous Screen Gems/ Warner Bros and Depatie Freleng Enterprises director and animator Arthur Davis, who outlived Emaunel. He later altered his surname to Davis. Also, he had an older brother, named Philip Davis, Who ran an alcohol business located in L.A. alongside Art
He graduated from Cooper Union Art School and joined the war in WW1 as a Corporal in the 472nd engineers at Washington DC For animating medical and training films.
Mannie began his career from 1918 in the Barre Studio for the Mutt And Jeff Cartoons Then he after that, he left in 1921 for Fleischer Bros. Then Left for work in 1924 in Fables Pictures Inc. Working for Paul Terry’s Aesops Fables Film Series. He was also one of those who was there during the transition period after Amedee J. Van Beuren took over, Mannie was one of John Foster’s assistants to his writing during his time in Van Beuren. He was also a close collaborator and co-director of John along with his animated cartoons.
Work in Terrytoons
