Anyone who watched the initial season on Stranger Things can attest that Dr. Martin Brenner (played by Matthew Modine) was portrayed as an antagonist. He was the actual character who portrayed The Demogorgon and its fanciful evil plans. It was through the direction from the Dr. Brenner stranger that Eleven ( Millie Bobby Brown) permitted the Demogorgon to be a reality in the first in the first place. This pattern that showed the Dr. Brenner being a villainous character continued to grow in Season 2. Season 2 revealed more heinous actions that the scientist committed, such as forming an elaborate plot to take Eleven out of her mommy upon her birth and further harming her mother when she tried to bring her daughter back. Season 3 did not reveal anything about The Dr. Brenner, which made his revelation of being living in the fourth season more shocking.
Doctor. Brenner maintained a critical role in the fourth season of Stranger Things in helping Eleven to restore her abilities. To accomplish this however, he was required to expose Eleven to a source of immense distress from the past that was that was so damaging to her mind that her mind completely removed it from her mind. Even though the project has been declared as a success, the whole process was less of an effective endeavor, rather than a necessary evil. It’s not to claim the Doctor. Brenner necessarily enjoyed witnessing Eleven endure these horrific incidents again, but it was he who believed it was the sole way to reconnect with her power.
After Eleven was able to regain her powers, she was determined to leave the bunker order to aid her fellow comrades. The project was heavily based on the belief in the fact that Dr. Brenner would allow her to leave if she wanted to, this proved to be a ploy of deceit from the scientist, who prevented Eleven from leaving. Instead, he occupied the bunker and slapped an electric shock collar over Eleven to discourage her to her from refusing to. He argued that she wasn’t sufficiently strong and additional tests should be completed to realize her full potential.
The plan is stopped by authorities from the United States government raids the bunker to murder Eleven. As he attempts to escape the bunker along with Eleven the Dr. Brenner is shot multiple times. In his last moments, he freed Eleven from her collar and gave Eleven his last phrases: “I want you to know…I am very proud of you. I am so proud of you. My family is yours. My child. I’ve always wanted to assist you. to protect you. Everything I did was to protect you. I want you to comprehend. Please let me know if you can understand.” The scene is interspersed with sadness and sorrowful tunes in the background as the doctor.
Brenner pleads for a response from tears-filled Eleven. The sombre look on her face is accompanied by two words and one tear for the man who has caused her so much grief: “Goodbye, Papa.”Eleven then went off into the desert with her friends. Later, while Brenner stood by as the van drove off, she accepted her fate and fell to his death. The entire scene is depicted as a tense and emotional scene which gives the Dr. Brenner look to be an empathetic character. The story depth of his character throughout Season 4 challenged some of the assumptions that viewers had about the scientist and at the same time, it reinforced the other aspects of his character.
It is unclear whether we were supposed to feel sympathy for Brenner’s character. Brenner or if this was a ploy to making viewers feel guilty for a character who’s simply an antagonist. One of the most intriguing aspects about villains is they can be straightforward or complicated and still function effectively. Stranger Things itself illustrates this concept in the very first series. It doesn’t require much thought to comprehend how it is the Demogorgon is a dangerous beast who wants to cause harm to the characters. The motivation for the Demogorgon is derived at a level that is instinctual but it acts as a frightening adversary for viewers to identify against.
If we were to rank villains on a spectrum of complexity with regard to motivation, the Demogorgon would fall at the extreme left, in which actions are purely by instinct. Dr. Brenner could be in the middle at the very least in Season 1. There are certainly some villainous traits that include being the leader of the team assigned to track for Eleven and murder anyone she might have come in contact with, but it isn’t a motive to hurt purely out of an instinct or a desire to do so. According to him this is the course of action was required to protect the secrets of Eleven’s life.
The place where Dr. Brenner’s motivation is shifting further to the complexity side is in Season 4. This season, we were able to witness a more compassionate side of Doctor. Brenner. He expresses genuine concern for Eleven during flashbacks of her previous experiences and, in large portion of the reasons Dr. Brenner tried to confine Eleven inside the bunker is that the doctor was worried that she wasn’t sufficient to stand up to Vecna and thus causing her death if she tried in the future to stand up against him the moment. Dr. Brenner did not treat Eleven or any other child that he studied in the manner of data.
There’s no doubt that he was cruel to children by using shock collars as punishments and keeping them from the world outside However, in a way it was clear that he saw them as his own children. This is the reason they always called his “Papa” when they first met him. even though we’re in no way trying to justify the actions he committed or to claim that his actions were acceptable, we can affirm it is clear that Dr. Brenner displayed a certain affection towards the child, especially Eleven. The most significant twist was the fact that Dr. Brenner’s fascination in Vecna (who was later revealed to be One one of the children that he tried to experiment on) is the reason for the incidents that led to Stranger Things unfolding in the first place . It is significant for the plot overall, since Eleven discovers that over all the Doctor. Brenner has a fascination with the talents that the children he tries to raise. Even as One was old enough to be a grown-up He was under the supervision by Dr. Brenner in all instances. Maybe the scientist loved Eleven as if she were his family, but the affection was based on the reality that she had supernatural abilities.
Eleven was a rare scientific phenomenon which is the reason that the scientist Dr. Brenner so intrigued. When he states that he’s pleased with Eleven, he’s probably thinking he’s satisfied with how powerful she has become due to her capabilities. Everything dr brenner stranger things told Eleven was an untruth or at least not in his mind. The point at which deceit is brought into play is when context is provided to the words he spoke. He claims that he did everything to safeguard her, but the actions he took included exposing her to brutal tests, keeping her away from the world outside and putting her in a cell against her wishes and trying to kill her family members to ensure she was kept secret.
Maybe Eleven was the closest thing to Dr Brenner stranger was to a family prior Hawkins and Hawkins, but it wasn’t an unhealthy family if this was the situation. He was brutal in every sense regardless of whether he was aware in the first place or not. it’s due to all the trauma and abuse that he put Eleven to the point that she felt far more enough to be able to deny him peace at the end of his time on Earth. Eleven, in those brief moments of reflection, realized that the man in front of her had to be told that the actions he took were okay regardless of what that he may have done wrong, she could be forgiven for his actions. It was her closest relationship was to a father for most of her existence and she was sure that to him her daughter was the most important thing.
After all, even when she helped Eleven to regain her power however, she was not a debtor to the old man, who caused her so much stress and pain, and it was amazing to watch as those who were abused admitted that they had no right to accept their abuser’s forgiveness. dr brenner stranger things Whatever emotions shared between them it was clear that he had been abusive and nothing but affection could justify the actions he took.
