The Sydney Sweeney ‘s Euphoria character, Cassie Howard, wears her heart on her sleeve quite often on Sam Levinson’s gripping HBO series.
In a recent interview for Deadline, Sweeney has admitted to the challenges of playing such a empathetic character, and how she connects to a character like Cassie. Sydney Sweeney said to Deadline that she frequently is trying to find characters she does not “connect to anyhow” to test her own self-esteem, Cassie is actually an exception to the rule.
“I always strive to push myself in order to improve my writing skills. Cassie I consider her one of the characters that is most relatable to me because I am looking for the love of others in order to feel accepted, as I’m afraid of being lonely. I was a teenager as well, so I can definitely identify with her, but the majority of my characters, I try to be completely divergent from” Sweeney said.
However, the part of Cassie is certainly a stressful character for any actress due to the emotional intensity she exhibits in every scene and the drama of the show. So so far in the two episodes, Cassie has had an emotional and troubled relationship in with Nate (Jacob Elordi) and has experienced traumatic events within her friendship with her ex-boyfriend Chris (Algee Smith) and even had the attempt to destroy her sister’s stage and was beaten down in the past by Maddy (Alexa Maddy).
Despite the intense nature of these plotlines and the subsequent ferocity of filming these scenes but Sweeney has stated that she does not find it difficult to differentiate her from Cassie. She plays in the TV show “The White Lotus opposite Connie Britton, did elaborate about how Cassie is a teacher to her and taught her a few things about herself.
“I believe she has taught me how to let go of any insecurities I might have. Also, she has taught me to allow myself to completely immerse myself in her feelings,” Sweeney said.
“It’s been a truly wonderful opportunity be able to express all of her diverse, wild emotions she’s had to confront. It’s been a lot of fun.”
In the course of her performance on Season 2 of Euphoria, Sweeney was awarded an Emmy nomination for this season for the best acting support in a dramatic. It was the second nomination she was awarded in this years Emmys. Another was for her role in the film the White Lotus, for which she was nominated as the best actor supporting in a short TV series/anthology series.
Sweeney will also appear in the highly sought-after Madame Web movie which is one of the coming Sony Spider-Man Universe films. Sweeney will play Julia Carpenter.
