The Kissing Booth 4 is for all intents & purposes nothing. Everyone, from the actors to the writers behind the books, refers to it as the end. If history can be trusted, it’s that you never know what the future holds, especially when it comes down to highly successful film franchises.
Fans would love more, considering that The Kissing Booth trilogy was a huge success. The Kissing Booth 3 rose quickly to the top of Netflix’s most-watched list in the wake of its release. The movie’s ambiguous end lends itself to future movies.
In the third movie, Elle (King), decided what she wanted for her future. She made an unexpected decision to not attend Harvard with Noah (Jacob Elordi), or Berkeley with Lee (“Joel Courtney”) in this film. She chose her own path, and she went to USC to study videogame design.
Although the third movie is being marketed as the ending of The Kissing Booth trilogy, it actually occurred with Netflix’s other major teen series, To All the Boys, which now has a spinoff TV series.
The Kissing Booth 3 concludes with an epilogue six years later, when Elle and Noah reunited for the first time since their split. There are hints of their romance as they ride on a motorcycle together at the end.
Variety King acknowledged that the final moments of their story are open to interpretation and she has her own interpretations, but she is equally eager for readers to have a “really good time guessing”. The fourth movie will follow the story of King and her family.
It could also focus on a significant event in their lives, Lee and Rachel (Meganne Young’s) wedding. Although they broke up in the movie, the epilogue revealed that they were reunited after attending separate colleges and are now engaged. Awww.
The Kissing Booth 4: Is The Kissing Booth 4 a real possibility?
We should not get ahead of ourselves, however, because Netflix has not confirmed The Kissing Booth4 or any other continuation for the series.
The cast and even King have been talking like this is the end of the series, with King claiming that this is Elle’s last performance.
King stated The Nerds of Colour, “It’s very difficult to say goodbye to someone you’ve played for so many years and also having played this character through such significant moments in my life.”
Similar messages have been received from King’s castmates. Elordi told Vanity Fair November 2020 that The Kissing Booth3 “is really your last kiss.” However, he had an idea for a fourth movie.
“I would love to see them all together in a nursing home. It would be very interesting, and it would be great. It’s possible that the film is a series monologues in which they recount everything that has happened between 20 and 92,” he explained Entertainment Tonight.
It sounds great, but Beth Reekles (author of the series on which the movies are based) is perhaps the most telling sign that this is not the end. Reekles called the final chapter in the story the third movie and the book.
“When I had finished editing The Kissing Booth3: One Last Times, I was sobbing when I saw the movie for the first-time a few weeks ago. She posted that she felt like she was grieving.
“This has been a ten-year process, ten years of Elle, Lee, and Noah. Now it’s over… It’s the end for an era.
This all sounds quite definitive to us at the moment, but we aren’t sure. Since the series has made them stars, they aren’t able to make another movie.
Jacob Elordi plays a major role in Ephoria. Joel Courtney recently landed the lead role in the new movie Piball: The Man Who Saved the Game. And, perhaps most importantly, Joey King has her very own mega Netflix deal to produce many movies through her production company All The King’s Horses.
The deal also includes the Uglies, and King has upcoming roles in Bullet Train with Brad Pitt and The In Between. This was made based on her story pitch. King will also be producing and starring on Hulu’s limited series a Spark of Light.
It is difficult to see where any of the stars might fit in another Kissing Booth movie in the near future. It’s hard to imagine another minor character, To All the Boys. They could be a part of a movie or television show that extends the series.
Given how popular the series has become, it’s impossible to say no. Maybe we’ll see Elle, Noah, and Lee at their next stage in life. For now, enjoy The Kissing Boothtrilogy.
